Horseback Riding Program: Skill, Care, and Fun

From Hunt Seat to Jumping, our English riding program builds confidence, skill, and care for horses through hands-on lessons in a supportive environment.

Horseback Riding

Camp Deer Creek offers a special English riding program, covering key areas of horsemanship:

• Hunt Seat Equitation

• Pleasure Riding

• Elementary Jumping

• Grooming and Showmanship

• Care of Horse and Tack

Lessons

Our horseback riding lessons are conducted in small groups and last between 20 minutes (for Crickets and Braves) and 45 minutes (for Pioneers and up). Lessons cover all aspects of horsemanship—from a child’s first experience with a horse to jumping and cantering. Campers also receive training in horse and tack care.

Each lesson costs $45.00.

Equipment

Campers must bring long pants and sturdy boots with a well-defined heel; tennis shoes and rain boots are not allowed. Please ensure your camper brings their riding clothes and boots daily until they’ve completed their scheduled lessons for the camp year. If they are scheduled to ride and don’t have their equipment, a makeup lesson may not be possible due to scheduling constraints. If you need help with transporting clothes daily, please let us know.

Scheduling

Due to the varying number of riders and external factors like weather, lesson distribution may not be consistent each week (e.g., a camper may ride twice in one week and not the next). Riding schedules are set each camp day and cannot be provided in advance, so please send your camper with their equipment every day until their lessons are completed.

We strive to deliver all requested and paid-for lessons over the full camp season. If we are unable to fulfill the total number of lessons, a refund will be issued at the end of the summer.
