They form meaningful connections with campers, both short- and long-term, while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Counselors are responsible for supervising smaller camper sub-groups, participating in activities and games, monitoring behavior, and ensuring safety at all times. Additional duties include serving lunch and providing assistance to campers as needed.
Unit heads serve as the head counselors for each of our seven age groups and are among our most experienced and trusted staff members. Many unit heads have been with Camp Deer Creek for years, earning their positions through proven dedication and responsibility.
Specialists lead our diverse camp activities and bring their passion for a specific field to life. While expertise isn’t required, specialists should be comfortable with their activity and genuinely interested in sharing it with campers. Activities include Arts & Crafts, Archery, Nature, Music, Drama, Field Games, and the Climbing Wall. Specialists plan age-appropriate activities and lead groups ranging from preschoolers to high schoolers, tailoring each session to engage and inspire campers.
Lifeguards play a vital role in maintaining a safe and fun environment at our swimming pool. They are responsible for pool safety, supervising swim periods, and leading swimming lessons for all age groups during morning sessions. Lifeguards also manage the upkeep of the pool area, including laundering towels and maintaining locker rooms. Applicants must hold Red Cross lifeguard certification to apply.
Our horseback riding specialists guide campers through our English riding program, which includes hunt seat, pleasure riding, jumping, grooming, and horse care. This position is perfect for horse lovers who are comfortable maintaining and caring for horses while sharing their passion with campers of all ages.
Kitchen staff ensure campers are well-fed and energized by preparing daily lunches and afternoon snacks like pretzels and bug juice. They also maintain a clean and organized lodge, making this role ideal for those interested in cooking or food service.
